On September 18th, 2024
at 0345 hours Cpl Grossman and I were dispatched to [1600 BLOCK] New Castle St regarding a generic law call. Upon our arrival on scene I activated my BWC.
We approached the front on the residence and observed the front glass door was shattered. The front door was open with a blood trail leading inside the residence. We heard yelling coming from inside the residence as well. Dispatch was notified to hold the air. We unholstered our department issued handguns and entered the residence. The bathroom door was closed with blood stains on it. I heard yelling from inside. I opened the door and saw the suspect, later identified as Earis Miller, on top of the victim, later identified as [VICTIM ], striking him in the head. Mr. Miller was told to drop the black handgun that was in his hands. He dropped the gun and was taken into custody by Cpl Grossman.
More units were requested to respond urgently. When they arrived they assisted with the detention of the Mr. Miller. I watched over Mr. [VICTIM ] as Cpl Grossman retrieved his medic-bag to render aid.
I observed multiple lacerations to Mr. [VICTIM ]’ face.
1 Shell casing was observed on the floor in the entrance way of the residence.
EMS was requested to respond urgently. EMS arrived and assisted with rendering aid to Mr. [VICTIM ]. Due to Mr. [VICTIM ]’ hysterical state and him going in and out of consciousness. EMS sedated Mr. [VICTIM ] to allow us to be able to get him to the stretcher safely. Sgt Mydell and Lt Petit were notified and responded to the scene. Mr. [VICTIM ] was transported to MMC via Chatham EMS.
Mr. Miller was moved from Ofc D. Johnson’s patrol vehicle to mine. Mr. Miller’s property and a black handgun were transferred into my possession. EMS was called to check on Mr. Miller. Paramedic arrived on scene and indicated that Mr. Miller may have a concussion and will need to be cleared at MMC before he is transported to CCDC.
Detective Thomas was notified and responded to the scene. Mr. Miller and his personal property were transferred into the custody of Ofc S. Johnson.
A Glock 19 Gen 4 was transferred into Ofc S. Johnson’s custody. This concludes my involvement.
