On 9/10/24 at 0312 hours I was patrolling the area of W 37th St./Jefferson St. when I observed a black female sitting on the front steps of [300 BLOCK] W 37th St. This address has constant complaints of drug users trespassing on this property and leaving trash all around.
I approached the front steps and asked the female, later identified as Montranace Green, what she was doing there. Green advised she had just walked a long way and stopped on the front porch to rest. Ofc. Mormando obtained her information because Green did not have any identification on her. While Ofc. Mormando returned to the patrol vehicle to run her, Green asked what people usually do when they sit on this porch which I replied “smoke crack”. Green had a tote bag with her that she kept next to her and repositioned slightly during our conversation.
I asked Green if she smoked crack and she didn’t reply. I pointed out several broken crack pipes and pieces of brillo in the area and harped on the fact that this is a place for people to come and smoke crack. I asked Green if I could her and her bag and she said she was in possession of a crack pipe and brillo in the bag. I had Green step off the porch to the sidewalk and conducted a of her person while Ofc. Decker ed her bag and located the glass pipe, brillo and metal push rod. While I was ing her bra area, Green advised that she had a rock on her – I located a small crystal like rock substance, which I recognized as crack cocaine, in the left bra cup.
I escorted Green to my patrol car where she was placed in double locked handcuffs. Up until this point, Green was extremely cooperative and polite. Green began crying and stated that she didn’t want to go to jail. Miranda was read to Green and she agreed to speak with me without legal representation present. Green stated she got the crack from Yamacraw and had actually ran into police while she had it in her bra, but they didn’t her and let her go. Green didn’t provide any other pertinent information regarding the narcotics.
As we began transporting to CCDC, Green slammed her head forward and backward stating she wanted to kill herself. While on westbound I-16, she slipped her right wrist out of the handcuff, unhooked her seatbelt, and wrapped it around her neck several times very tightly. We stopped the patrol vehicle and re-secured Green. Once we arrived at CCDC, she was booked on the listed charges without further incident.
The crystal rock like substance F/T positive for cocaine and weighed .1gm and was logged in as evidence along with the drug related objects. Green’s tote bag was logged in as safe keeping. BWC active.
