COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A man is in custody after allegedly attempting to abduct a 2-year-old child from a Walmart in Acworth, authorities announced.

On March 18, 2025, Acworth Police officers responded to the Walmart located at 3105 Cobb Parkway following reports that a man tried to snatch a young child from their mother.

According to police, the suspect approached the mother under the pretense of asking about Tylenol before suddenly grabbing her child and attempting to pull the toddler away. The mother managed to hold onto her child and escape, and the suspect fled the scene. Fortunately, the child was unharmed.

Detectives quickly launched an investigation, reviewing store surveillance footage and FLOCK license plate reader cameras, and interviewing witnesses. Through their efforts, they identified a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On March 21, 2025, officers arrested 56-year-old Mahendra Patel of Kennesaw. He is charged with:

  • Simple Assault (Misdemeanor) – O.C.G.A. 16-5-20
  • Simple Battery (Misdemeanor) – O.C.G.A. 16-5-23
  • Kidnapping (Felony) – O.C.G.A. 16-5-40

Patel is currently being held at the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office without bond.
