HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man previously convicted in the 2019 fatal shooting of a nightclub security guard has taken a plea deal, avoiding a retrial after the Georgia Supreme Court overturned his original conviction.

Morgan Baker, initially found guilty of malice murder in 2022 for the shooting death of Tamarco Head outside Club Boss in Warner Robins, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Baker was sentenced to 20 years—15 to be served in prison, with the remaining five on probation.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on July 6, 2019, following a performance by Alabama rapper NoCap. Authorities say Baker, part of the rapper’s entourage, got into an argument with security after the show. He and another individual allegedly retrieved firearms from a nearby vehicle and fired toward the entrance of the club, fatally striking Head.

Baker was initially sentenced to life in prison, but the state Supreme Court reversed the conviction, citing the improper admission of a music video clip shown to jurors. The 33-second video, which featured Baker holding a pistol with an extended magazine, was deemed irrelevant to the case and potentially prejudicial.

Rather than face a second trial, Baker accepted the plea deal.

Houston County District Attorney Eric Z. Edwards described the case as “a stark reminder of the unjustifiable violence that too often follows disputes in nightlife settings.”

“While the court found issues with how evidence was presented, the facts remained unchanged—Baker’s actions directly led to the tragic and needless death of Tamarco Head,” Edwards said.

The second suspect involved in the shooting has not been publicly identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
