FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Music icon and Atlanta resident Usher Raymond IV is set to take center stage at Emory University’s 180th commencement ceremony on Monday, May 12, 2025, where he will deliver the keynote address.
The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning artist will also be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of his philanthropic efforts and longstanding commitment to empowering youth.
Usher, who moved to Atlanta at the age of 12, is the founding chair of Usher’s New Look, a nonprofit he launched in 1999. The organization has impacted more than 55,000 under-resourced teens by helping them identify goals, pursue education, build character, and give back to their communities. Emory has also partnered with the organization to expand its reach and impact.
This won’t be Usher’s first time behind the podium—he previously delivered the 2023 commencement speech at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he also received an honorary doctorate for his contributions to music and social change.
