SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. – At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 2, 2025, the late former President Jimmy Carter posthumously won his fourth Grammy Award. Carter, who passed away on December 29 at age 100, would have become the oldest Grammy winner in history; however, blues artist Pinetop Perkins retains the record with his 2011 win at age 97.
Carter earned this year’s Grammy in the category of Audiobook, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration. The compilation features recordings from his final Sunday School lessons at Maranatha Baptist Church, alongside contributions from artists such as LeAnn Rimes, Darius Rucker, and Jon Batiste.
Also nominated in the category were Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, George Clinton, and Guy Oldfield. Carter previously won three Grammys in the Spoken Word Album category.
The 39th president’s grandson, Jason Carter, reflected on his grandfather’s love for music: “He’s such an enormous music fan. He loves the creative aspect of music. It’s been an important part of his political life, an important part of his personal life. He’s an artist in many ways.”
Carter joins fellow former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who have each won two Grammy Awards. Other former presidents, including John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Harry S. Truman, received nominations but did not win. First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama have also earned Grammy honors.
