On 7-3-2024
at 1743 hours, I conducted a traffic stop at Abercorn St/E 36th St. I approached the driver’s side to advise the driver of the reason for the stop. The driver handed me his driver’s license when I returned to my vehicle to enter his information into GCIC/NCIC. That was when the driver decided he did not want to stay at the traffic stop anymore, so he started to drive away at a high rate of speed, driving recklessly and disregarding traffic control devices. The driver also decided to travel in the opposite direction on a one-way start. After losing sight of the vehicle, I pulled over.
While pulled over, we received a dispatch call matching the description of the vehicle that had fled from the traffic stop. The report indicated that the vehicle had crashed at 619 E Anderson St, damaging an Air Conditioning unit and a fence. Witnesses reported that the driver fled on foot from the crash site. Approximately 20 minutes later, we received another dispatch call from [1500 BLOCK] E 33rd St, reporting a stolen vehicle. Units responded to the call and arrested Mr. Michael James, who was then transported to CCDC on multiple charges.
CRN was Issued. Photos of the damage to the air conditioning unit, fence, and vehicle were taken. Tim’s Towing towed the vehicle.
