On Friday, September 13, 2024
, at approximately 1833 hours, I was dispatched to 104 Zena Drive, Cartersville, GA 30121, Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, in reference to a domestic dispute that occurred at [10 BLOCK] Moonlight Drive, Acworth, GA 30102.
Upon arrival, I made with the complainant/victim, Ms. [VICTIM ], who stated she and her roommate/suspect, Ms. Jill Zupko, had been in a physical altercation the previous night. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated she arrived back at the residence above after several nights of being at her boyfriend’s residence. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated she was in the bathroom when Ms. Zupko approached her and yelled that she needed to clean the bathroom. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated she became defensive because she had not been there for several nights so she did not feel it was her responsibility to clean the bathroom. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated a verbal argument ensued before Ms. Zupko shoved her backward into the bathtub and began striking her repeatedly with a closed fist. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated she could not defend herself due to the severe arthritis in both of her hands but she was able to get away from Ms. Zupko and run down the hall into Ms. [WITNESS ]’ room, the owner of the residence.
Ms. [VICTIM ] stated Ms. Zupko then chased her down the hallway with a small mirror she obtained from the bathroom. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated Ms. Zupko then struck her in the center of her forehead with the mirror, leaving a big knot and bruise on her forehead and causing the mirror to shatter. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated Ms. Zupko then grabbed a piece of the shattered glass and acted as if she was going to stab her with it. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated that is when Ms. Zupko threw the glass and began striking her with a closed fist once more. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated Ms. Zupko finally got up and left the room where she was able to collect herself enough to go to her room and lock the door. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated she would’ve called 911 but she was too shaken up and that is why she waited until today to file the report.
While speaking with Ms. [VICTIM ], I observed several bruises and scrapes on her chest along with the knot and bruise from being struck with the mirror. I also observed a laceration to the right side of Ms. [VICTIM ]’s nose which would be consistent with the mirror shattering. All of these markings were photographed on my body-worn camera.
I provided Ms. [VICTIM ] with a case number and victim’s resources and she then left the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Willie Barkley then proceeded to the residence and made with Ms. Zupko where he eventually took her into custody. See Deputy Barkley’s supplemental to this report for more details on Ms. Zupko’s statement and chain of events leading up to and following her arrest.
Warrants were taken on Ms. Zupko for Aggravated Assault and Battery on a Person 65 or Older, both under the Family Violence Act due to the two individuals living in the same household.
