On July 17th, 2024
, at 03:37 hours I, Officer W. Sylla, was dispatched to [1900 BLOCK] Arcadian Street in reference to an aggravated assault report. Upon arrival, I activated my body-worn camera (BWC).
I arrived on the scene and met Ms. [VICTIM ], who did not speak English. Sgt. Colon also arrived on the scene and served as a translator. Ms. [VICTIM ] said she resides at the above location with her boyfriend, Mr. Aldofo Juarez, and their one-year-old son, [REDACTED]. They also have two male roommates, one of whom is Mr. [WITNESS ].
Ms. [VICTIM ] said the incident began when she was sitting at the rear of the residence speaking with the two male roommates. Her boyfriend became angry and told her to leave the residence without her son. She went to their bedroom and into the restroom. When she exited the bathroom, they got into a verbal altercation that turned physical, while their son was in the room.
(Ms. [VICTIM ]) said her boyfriend grabbed her and forced her to the ground, then he grabbed her throat and began to strangle her, he let go slightly before she lost any consciousness. He said to her he hated her and wanted to kill her while strangling her. She said she scratched him in self-defense and the blood spots that were on the floor belonged to him.
I met with Mr. [WITNESS ] who said he noticed the couple argues a lot, and he was in his room with his brother when he heard what sounded like a physical altercation between the two. He rushed and opened their door and observed Mr. Juarez on top of Ms. [VICTIM ], he managed to break them up. He feared for the one-year-old baby’s safety since the child slept with them.
EMS arrived on the scene and offered to take her to the Hospital, but she refused. I advised her of the resources available through Safe Shelter.
Domestic Violence Detective responded
I provided Ms. [VICTIM ] with a CRN card.
