On June 11, 2024
, I was on duty in the city of Port Wentworth, Chatham County, GA. I responded to the rear of Georgia Comfort Kitchen, located at 109 Travelers Way, in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, I came upon a female sitting in the middle of the street, crying and distraught, who was later identified as [VICTIM ], who stated that she was just in a fight with her on and off boyfriend, Cameron Moreland, and that he beat and strangled her. [VICTIM ] stated that the two came to Savannah to go out and an argument ensued, and that is when he started hitting her, and then he choked her. I then looked at [VICTIM ]’s neck area and observed scratch marks. [VICTIM ] stated that the scratches were from when she was trying to get his hands from around her neck, because she to feel like she couldn’t breathe. I asked [VICTIM ] if she wanted to be medically evaluated by EMS and or Fire Dept personnel and she stated no.
[VICTIM ] stated that the two have been in an on and off relationship for the past three years and that the assaults have gradually became worse. [VICTIM ] stated that the two live separately in Charleston SC, does not have any children together nor share anything of value.
When asked if she would like to prosecute Cameron for the assault, she stated that she did not and all she wanted to do was for him to go away and leave her alone. I then instructed Cameron to get into his vehicle and head back to Charleston and to never put hands on [VICTIM ] again. I then place [VICTIM ] in the back of my patrol vehicle and escorted her to the Holiday Inn hotel in an attempt for her to have a safe place to stay until she could get a ride , but none were available. [VICTIM ] then ed a friend that was willing to come pick her up as soon as possible, and I escorted her to the Pilot truck stop to wait for her ride.
