On 11/16/24, at about 2320 Hours, I responded to the area of Barnard St. and W. Congress St. for a Fight call. Upon arrival I located the subject involved, later identified as Kendry Bello, yelling at another male.
Bello continued yelling at several people even after being told to stop. Bello appeared to be highly intoxicated, slurring his words and unsteady on his feet. Bello then pushed one of his friends and brought his right hand up towards another in an aggressive manner. At that time, I placed Bello in handcuffs and held on to his left upper arm. As I was trying to gather information as to what was going on, Bello tried to pull away from my continuing to yell and cuss at me and others in the area. Bello continued to try and pull away from me so, using his left arm, I pulled Bello back towards me and started turning to my right causing Bello to loose his balance. Still holding onto Bello’s arm, I slowly lowered Bello to the ground.
Bello was continuing to yell and cuss at me and others around him. During the incident it was learned that Bello is in the Military based in South Carolina and had come to Savannah to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
Bello was stood back up and escorted to a marked Police vehicle. Bello was placed in custody for Disorderly Conduct and ed incident to arrest. No contraband was found. Bello was then placed in the rear seat of a fully marked Police vehicle.
After placing Bello in the vehicle, I was approached be a male, later identified as Neal Demontre, who advised he is a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. and Bello is in his unit. I let Demontre try and speak to Bello to try and calm him down. Bello did not want to speak with Demontre.
Once all paperwork was completed Bello was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center without further incident.
A CRN was issued for this incident and video from my Body Worn Camera was saved.
