On 07/14/2024
at approximately 2027
hours, I was dispatched to a domestic disturbance call at [600 BLOCK] Old River Rd. My body-worn camera was active.
The victim, [VICTIM ] ([REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1977), and the offender, Reginaldo Gatto ([REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1972), are ex-spouses but have been living together for the past three years.
Victim’s Statement
When I arrived on the scene, I observed that there was a closed gate with a lock leading to the property. I was unable to get to the residence.
I then called the complainant, [REDACTED], who informed me of the passcode to the gate and that Ms. [VICTIM ] was no longer at the residence but instead at 101 St. Joseph Candler Dr. in Pooler. Mr. [REDACTED] stated that he lives nine hours away. Due to time constrants I did not get his information
When I went to St. Joseph Candler and spoke with Ms. [VICTIM ], she informed me that she asked Mr. Gatto if he could help her wash the dishes and water the plants. Mr. Gatto went outside and then returned without watering the plants. Mr. Gatto got into Ms. [VICTIM ]’s face and began yelling at her, complaining about her attitude. Ms. [VICTIM ] started to back up and Mr. Gatto followed her to the front door. At the front door, Mr. Gatto grabbed Ms. [VICTIM ], shoved her to the floor, and began choking her and slamming her head on the floor while stating, “I will kill you.” Ms. [VICTIM ] stated she did not lose consciousness but could not breathe while being choked. Ms. [VICTIM ] was able to escape from Mr. Gatto’s grip and ran to and locked herself in the downstairs bathroom. Ms. [VICTIM ] did not have her phone at this time.
Mr. Gatto was heard going up the stairs, then came down the stairs and began banging on the door to the bathroom. Ms. [VICTIM ] opened the door and attempted to walk away before Mr. Gatto grabbed her by the arm and knocked her to the floor a second time. Mr. Gatto again stated he would kill her and “If you call the police, I’ll tell them that the dog did it.” Ms. [VICTIM ] stated that she felt one of their dogs near her while she was being attacked but did not know if the dog had bitten her. Mr. Gatto began to slam Ms. [VICTIM ]’s head against the ground for a second time. Ms. [VICTIM ] was able to escape again, this time grabbing her phone and her car keys. She then called the complainant who called 911 while she drove herself to St. Joseph Candler in Pooler.
While at St. Joseph’s Candler I observed bruises on Ms. [VICTIM ]’s left arm and left cheek, small cuts on her nose, a laceration on the back of her head, and blood in her hair, on her shirt, shorts, and hoodie. Pictures of Ms. [VICTIM ]’s injuries and bloody clothes were taken using Axon Capture and uploaded to Evidence.com.
I completed a lethality screening form and Ms. [VICTIM ] was referred to SafeShelter but declined to them.
I provided Ms. [VICTIM ] with a case report number and informed her how to receive a copy of the report.
Mr. Gatto’s Statement
I then went to Mr. Gatto’s residence at [600 BLOCK] Old River Rd. to make with him. When I arrived at the residence Mr. Gatto was on his front porch. I made with Mr. Gatto and asked him for his statement. Mr. Gatto said, “Why don’t you tell me what happened.” He declined to provide a statement.
Actions Taken
Using Ms. [VICTIM ]’s statement and physical evidence I determined Mr. Gatto was the predominant aggressor and he was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault. I placed Mr. Gatto in handcuffs, checked for proper spacing, and double-locked them. Mr. Gatto was ed incident to arrest before being placed in the back seat of my marked patrol car.
A supervisor was requested and SGT. Humphries responded to the scene.
Mr. Gatto was transported to Memorial Medical Center without incident. He was medically cleared by MMC staff.
Mr. Gatto was transported to CCDC without incident. He was provided with a copy of his arrest and booking form.
