Deputy Stricklin was advised by Lt. Pitts via a phone call there was a disabled school bus blocking traffic on the entrance road to HHS closer to the school.Deputy Stricklin arrived on scene and observed a school bus (#342) with it’s hazard lights on and a HHS teacher parked behind the bus directing traffic. Deputy Stricklin assumed traffic direction and was advised by the bus driver that a car had hit the bus on the center drivers side and left the scene.The bus driver informed Deputy Stricklin at approximately 0720 hrs a silver SUV had struck the driver side center of the bus and did not stop. Deputy Stricklin informed dispatch of the vehicle description to BOLO. The bus driver provided information for a witness to the crash. The witness confirmed to the bus driver her recollection of the crash was what she saw as well. The witness also provided additional details to the bus driver of the crash.The witness informed the bus driver the silver SUV had South Carlina tags, the driver had shoulder length brown hair and there was a handicap placard on the rear mirror. The bus driver provided the witness information but the phone number the bus driver provided was not correct so Deputy Stricklin was unable to obtain a witness statement.Deputy Stricklin reviewed HHS school cameras and confirmed the offender dropped of his children at the front entrance of HHS at 0717 hrs. Catoosa County Public Schools (CCPS) transportation department provided bus #342 video that showed the offenders vehicle collide with the drivers center side of the bus and continuing on without stopping.Deputy Stricklin obtained the address for the offender from CCPS information system and went to the residence at [200 BLOCK] E Sharon Cir Ringgold, GA 30736 to look for the vehicle. Deputy Stricklin arrived at that location and observed the suspected vehicle in the driveway. Deputy Stricklin could see severe damage to the drivers front side of the vehicle which would be consistent with the impact location.Lt. Wooten arrived on scene. Deputy Stricklin and Lt. Wooten knocked on the front door and offenders wife [REDACTED] came to the door and admitted the offender had driven their children to school at HHS this morning in the suspected vehicle. After reviewing the damage to the vehicle the offenders wife informed Lt. Wooten and Deputy Stricklin, this was new damage. The damage pics clear show yellow paint on the suspected vehicle.The wife went back into the residence to get the offender. The offender came outside and stated he had no recollection of hitting a school bus. The offender claimed he has seizures and does not remember anything after dropping the kids off at the front of HHS. Deputy Stricklin informed the offender he would be placed under arrest for hit and run.Deputy Stricklin placed the offender under arrest with cuffs behind his back. Deputy Stricklin had to use 2 sets of cuffs due to the size of the offender. Deputy Stricklin checked the cuffs for proper fit and double locked them. Deputy Stricklin searched the offender for contraband with none found.Deputy Stricklin placed the offender in the rear seat of his patrol car. Deputy Stricklin was unable to seat belt the offender in due to his size. Deputy Stricklin arrived a detention and turned the offender over to detention staff with no issues.
