I, PFC J Taylor R77, was dispatched to 1105 Martha Berry Blvd in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival I made with a large group of male subjects and they all advised me that a subject, later identified as Elijah Shaw, had struck a female several times at the hotel. The group gave me a description of a shirtless male wearing black joggers and as I was gathering further information I observed a subject matching the same description exit a room from the top floor and run to the back of the hotel. Because of this I gave chase after the subject who was currently running toward Desoto. Once on Desoto I lost sight of the subject and because of this I returned to the hotel to further speak with witness and to locate the victim. As I arrived back at the hotel I was advised by other Officers in the area that they had located the male, who was detained and was transported back to the hotel.
I spoke to [WITNESS ] and he advised that he and several individuals were hanging out in front of and in the rooms of the hotel when Elijah became drunk and began to get aggressive with everyone outside. During this time a fight nearly broke out between Elijah and several of the residence there but was broken up and separated and Elijah then returned to his room with his girlfriend [VICTIM ]. [WITNESS ] stated that while Elijah was returning to his room he and [VICTIM ] were verbally arguing and the Elijah was being very aggressive toward her and because of the her and several others went to the top floor to keep a ear out for the two of them. [WITNESS ] stated that after a few moments they heard what he described as loud smacks and blows coming from the room before hearing a female scream and telling him to stop. Shortly after [VICTIM ] exited the room and attempted to run away but [WITNESS ] stated that Elijah chased after her, grabbed her by her hair and then dragged her back to the room. Several people stepped in and separated the two before PD arrived.
I spoke to [WITNESS ] who advised that she was in the room with the couple when Elijah attacked [VICTIM ] and she stated that she was in the room with her 1 year old when Elijah entered the hotel room. [WITNESS ] stated that Elijah walked up to [VICTIM ] and slapped her across her face before punching her in the eye and told her “The baby is saving you life” and “You don’t know how bad I’m going to Kill you.” [WITNESS ] stated that he began striking [VICTIM ] with both open and closed fist across her face. [WITNESS ] stated that she attempted to break it up and also during the time she attempted to keep the door open even though Elijah attempted multiple times to shut it. [WITNESS ] also stated that she observed Elijah dragging [VICTIM ] across the ground and back into the room. [WITNESS ] stated that the child was in the room during the entire encounter.
I spoke to Elijah and he stated that he had been drinking and that [VICTIM ] had hit him in the face but he never hit her. Elijah stated that he did chase after [VICTIM ] and that he did drag her by her hair. Elijah stated that he ran because he heard someone say that they were going to get a gun and shoot him. Upon my arrival on scene no one had a firearm on them. I spoke to [VICTIM ] and during this time I observed several marks on the front and back of her neck as well as around her eyes. I also observed several areas on her scalp that were open and actively bleeding around the roots of her hair. Photos were captured and uploaded to evidence.com.
It was at this time I advised Elijah that he was under arrest ed his person and then placed him in the back seat of my Patrol Unit(177). I then transported and booked him in at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office on the charges of Aggravated Assault – 16-5-21, False Imprisonment – 16-5-41 and Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree – 16-5-70. While at the jail Elijah made several statement that he wasn’t going to jail for the same charges as last time and made threat to kill himself before he saw a judge. Jail staff handled and detained him accordingly.
